Manager of Human Resources (La Porte, IN)

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

We are hiring a highly organized and experienced Human Resources Manager to lead and support our HR team through the day-to-day operations of a well-established organization currently evolving its HR processes and procedures, across multiple states. This role is responsible for managing all core HR functions, including policy and procedure implementation, recruitment, employee relations, performance management, benefits support, and the full employee lifecycle—from onboarding and screening to offboarding. The HR Manager will play a critical role in promoting a positive, productive, and compliant workplace culture.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Serve as a key partner to the HR Director, supporting the administration of policies and procedures while championing high standards and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
  • Manage the recruitment and selection process to attract and retain top talent.
  • Oversee employee onboarding, training, and development programs.
  • Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation, and retention of employees.
  • Provide support with FMLA administration according to legal regulations.
  • Act as a point of contact for employee concerns, and mediate workplace conflicts when needed.
  • Help develop and monitor HR metrics (e.g., turnover rates, engagement surveys).
  • Partner with leadership to improve employee experience and company culture.
  • Maintain and update employee records in accordance with legal and organizational standards.
  • Coordinate performance management and improvement systems.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, a related field or adequate experience. 
  • 5 years (or more) of progressive HR experience. 
  • Thorough knowledge of labor legislation and HR best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including overall tech savviness.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with integrity.
  • Experience with UKG a plus but not requirement.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS

  • PHR/SPHR - Preferred but not required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role is primarily based on-site in La Porte, IN, with regular travel required. Travel will be more frequent during the initial phase as the manager becomes familiar with the company and their responsibilities. Over time, the travel schedule is expected to become more flexible (10-15% after initial onboarding), but also, based on the evolving needs of the role and support required by the HR team.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS, AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • $75,000 - $80,000 depending on experience
